This is one of the best game design related article I’ve ever read and if you don’t know by now, I usually hate everything not written by an actual developer when it comes to this topic.
This very thorough, very well written piece explaining why Yoshi’s Island should be talked about in schools was enough to make me give it a try via the 3DS Ambassador program which gave away the GBA port of the game. I’ve only played the first four levels, but I can see a lot of the points that Emily Rogers makes regarding the themes of the games, the mechanics and their uses, and the importance of the level design. I can’t wait to play more of it and I hope everyone else who hasn’t, also gives it a chance.
