Escape – We All Need It Somtimes

This is a very emotional short film by Kennedy Baruch that really kind of speaks to my childhood. While I wasn’t a bad student nor did I grow up in a troubled household, video games helped me escape the world when I didn’t want to be there. Heck, in middle school I remember video games being there to provide the only challenge I thought I could ever get outside of Magic: The Gathering, which might be why I spent so much time doing both.

My mom didn’t like that I played a lot of video games and even though I did consistently well in school, anything that went wrong immediately caused video games to be blamed and for my one source of feeling good was taken away (which makes it sound like a drug…but it was good for you). Not as bad as Danni in the video, but I just wanted to highlight how I think the escapist nature of video games can affect people in multiple ways and for some, it probably is the only source of peace and stability in a troubled environment.
