Here’s something I just discovered, a website called The Trenches. It’s half webcomic and half horror stories.
The webcomic chronicles follows Isaac Cox who is a game tester, which in itself is of a scary story for anyone who wants to get into the industry.
The scariest parts are the “Tales From the Trenches”, which are posts from real people who have seen the horrors of working for the big game developers. Seriously, I read one early one where a quiet woman apparently was fired for talking about the game with another employee during lunch. I almost wanted to cry along with her. The most recent one was one where a game development team was treated to a trip to Six Flags as a wrap-up party after finishing a game only to find out that the company ditched them there and basically all fired them.
Just another reason why I’m going indie.
