1) Free to Play Bubble
This is an interesting perspective that I didn’t think of. The free-to-play model seems to be built around itemizing virtual goods, which in my opinion, is a terrible idea. It carries a negative stigma and purposefully drags down the game experience for something that feels wrong and exploitative. For example, I use to play Clash of Clans for the Ipad. When I first got it, I would be checking every hour for what I could do next, then every couple of hours. Lately, it has been every day and to every couple of days to the point where I just don’t care anymore. The game wants me to spend some money to buy more workers or jewels to cut the 4 day build time to nothing, but that’s dumb.
I would much prefer the F2P model that Pachter is suggesting. I wouldn’t mind an ad if I got a really good, free experience.
2) Virtual Reality
I like the idea of Oculus Rift, but like Pachter said, it is a novelty. Unlike the Wii U Game Pad, the Kinect, etc. I don’t think anything really new can be done with a headmounted display. You would still need a controller for input so what else can be done?
