Taking this time between my Words With Friends war and my Borderlands play through, I decided I would bring you an update on the gaming scene. Something that you possibly know about, but I figure my personal spin will make it worth the read.
In my past couple days, I have come into more information about Playstation All-Stars, something basic I should have known already if I truly was interested in the game. The roster has been showing at my local Best Buy in the gaming section, and as I perched myself in the isles and watched the many videos of new characters, besides seeing the main cast of Nathan Drake, Sweet Tooth, Fat Princess, Papa the Rappa, and etc. I started seeing a few others in this rouges gallery that kind of made me think twice about their decision of including them within the game. I saw Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, Sir Daniel (MediEvil Fame), and even Sackboy (Little Big Planet). The one character that made me lose interest in the game?
Dante, the new Ninja Theory Devil May Cry Dante. Not the original White Hair Sparda Badass we have come to know and love, but the new one who seems to not only be part Devil but also part Angel. I have refused, I believe in a sincere gaming revolt, to stay away from the new DMC, as I have not been impressed by what I have seen. Now to have the new incarnation of a household name inside a game built for previous Playstation greats when he hasn’t even had his game released yet, just seems like a giant slap in the face.
Am I being too biased?
Sure, I’ll openly admit it, but will that change how I view the new DMC?
Doubtful, but back to the main topic.
I was sad to see that this oversight was allowed to be put into the game, I just don’t believe that this newcomer to the gaming world, no matter his previous incarnations badassity flows through the games 1, 3, and 4 (2 just was something that needs to be banished to the Null Void). Though this was not the only upset to this roster, there is also inclusion of Big Daddy, Bioshock fame. Now I have nothing against the Big D, but there is one minor hitch that gnawed at me rather painfully.
Originally, the original Bioshock was released only for the PC and Xbox 360, the PS3 was left out of the mix for over a year until a copy was released. Now tell me how a game that was not initially intended for the console, could possibly be considered an All-Star character?
I mean don’t get me wrong, Big Daddy is a powerful fighter and deserves the chance to fight in an arena of this caliber, I just believe if I’m giving one person a title it should be one that is true and not embellishing the truth so much. I know I am possibly being too much of a stickler for the rules and regulations of English language and Gaming, I can’t help it, it is just who I am.
Granted I found that as I sat and watched the New Challenger trailers, I found myself being intrigued and then repulsed, then back and then forth. It has been a very mixed journey on deciding if I would give All-Stars a shot or not, but I will saw I was left on the positive side of the spectrum with the last trailer I watched.
The last character that showed up on the screen was none other than cyborg warrior Raiden himself. Out of all of the series that they could have picked, they made a great decision to bring Raiden into the fray with his powerful Katana and his super attack putting everyone else on the field in cardboard boxes. I was always impressed with Metal Gear Solid, so this was one big turning point for me. I was surprised but thrilled at his inclusion.
In the end I am faced with a bigger question other than the roster is simple: Is this just Sony’s attempt to copy Nintendo’s successful franchise, Super Smash Bros?
I can’t in good faith answer that question, my first impressions scream “Yes” through a bullhorn but I can’t pinpoint any particular reason why Sony would want to play copy cat so right now it is a toss up.
For now, I’m going to keep my eye on this game, not particularly closely but enough so that I can let my opinion be known.
Update on the Posting Schedule: I have decided to stick to a steady schedule, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Starting today, I realize that I have 12 minutes before Saturday but I will be on time in the following weeks.
I want to thank Fruity Gamer and Our Blog for allowing my posts on their site. Check back for more posts later Saturday!
