Charting Out the History of Game Console Launch Prices

A lot of talk has been around about the Nintendo’s Wii U launch price. At $300 for a basic and $350 for a deluxe model (basically in black instead of white and comes with Nintendoland for what is essentially a bargain), the Wii U marks the highest launch price for a Nintendo console ever.

At least according to this Gamasutra article which charts them all in these nice little bar graphs. Oddly enough, despite this Nintendo has had the cheapest launch prices for their consoles, consecutively.  The article also postulates that consoles selling above $300 tend to not have such great launches, but seeing as I had to fight three armed bears with lasers just to preorder mine at Best Buy (BEST BUY!) because GameStop, nationwide, sold out of the delux models I have to say that Nintendo probably has nothing to worry about.
