An article on Gamasutra discusses how promoting a game early can sometimes hurt the game.
This is definitely something to keep in mind for people just getting into the industry, but I think it rings true for everything. There are already movie trailers when their release date is literally a year away. Why? What’s the point? I’m not going to remember that trailer 3 months from now and movies like Man of Steel aren’t going to even be in my thoughts until right up to its release.
The same with video games. We hear about new games way ahead of their actual release date, and sometimes they never come out and it sucks. Sometimes it even locks a developer into fulfilling a certain promise, and when they can’t the game suffers.
Also, that Hot Dog games just seems weird.
